rf input port on back of tv

I have an Zenith 13' tv that had the RF input port pulled out when one of my kids ran and tripped on the cable line...I opened the back of the tv thinking that all I would have to do was to solder some connections, but was surprised to find a small box full of circuitry and the male port broken off..the tv works with an antenae if I stick the wire through the hole where the male port used to be and make contact with the circuitry. can this small box be purchased and installed by someone with minimal tv repair experience..or should it be done by a qualified repair technician ?

thank you

That small box is the tuner.

That small box is the tuner. It can be replaced but it would cost more than the set is worth.  The RF connector can be replaced, you can use a standard RCA part number 215543. Problem is shop labor to install will also probably exceed the value of that little 13" TV.

Yep, this is a common problem

Yep, this is a common problem.  In the future, pick up an adaptor for hte cable line that converts it into a push-on F connector.  This way, if a trip occurs, the cable will pull off and not break the tuner connection.
