model: kp51ws500 sn:9022126 issue: high pitched whine followed by bright blue flashes, then shuts down and the power light flashes for a few secounds. i have recently replaced the convergence amps. i suspect this is a high voltage power supply problem. any hints/clues? HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
Disconnect the ICs you replaced and see if the set comes on. When you replaced the IC's did you put new heat sink compound on the back of the new IC's before you reinstalled them? If not they may have blown out again and shorted. Also where did you get the IC's? You should not use any cheap(cost wise) IC's from a distributor as every IC, even with the same numbers are not alike. you should purchace the IC from A Sony authorized parts distributor. If the ICs do not correct the problem you could have a short in the sweep power supply and/or the main power supply, as what the high pitched sound is the power suppies trying to stay on. the convergence amps were purchaced from electronics online. yes i did use heat sink compound. another symtom the set shows is retrace lines in dark screens ( the set showed these before and after i replaced the stk ics) i had posted in the string sony problems when the stk chips burned up before. ps the replacement ics were stamped sony.
The retrace lines is probably a screen adjustment.
