Help! I think I may be getting false information. We bought this TV in 2001. We have had it in a TV repair shop for over a month now. When the tech diagnosed the TV in our home, he said it was the "Power Source" and it need to go into their shop for repair (10 hours approx.). We paid to have them move the the TV to their shop as it is so heavy. We are now at $200 invested. The tech now says the picture tube has 30% left and the TV needs a new D-board and it isn't worth repairing. The problem with the TV was it would turn itself off repeatedly and a green light would disappear in the center of the screen.
We paid over $3,000 for the set, should we spend over $900 to repair??
Thanks for any advise!
Whats the model number, then i can se what the board cost and if the tech is overcharging you. They say it will cost another $900 or total to repair?
I'm at work and don't have the model number. The $900 is what they want to replace the D-Board and the picture tube, which they say will go out within 2-3 months if we don't replace it.
Thank you!
How long will they warranty the set after that?
I don't think they will warranty it. I've called around and I don't think I have the set with a reputable shop, one other shop said they wouldn't work on it after this shop because they usually mess them up worse. By the way, it's a Sony Trinitron, still don't have the model number.
The set turned itself off constantly and we were turning it back on constantly probably for 2-3 months before we called someone. I guess that would be hard on the picture tube.
I just really don't know what to do. Thanks for your responses!
