March Madness Online going HD w/ Silverlight

Mari and I have been talking up the CBSSports.com NCAA March Madness on Demand for what seems like years. While we’ve had occasional issues getting access due to overwhelming site traffic, the service has largely been great a success. Especially during for folks stuck in an office and without a Slingbox during those first few rounds. Back in the old days, MMoD was an Internet subscription service. However, in 2006 they implemented an advertising-supported model… generating a sweet $23 million last year. This March, in addition to the Flash-based ~550Kbps standard def streaming, an optional Silverlight (MSFT) experience will deliver “high-definition quality video” running at ~1.5Mbps. Above is an enlargeable mock-up of the new player. While I’m looking forward to the action, I’m not so sure my Terps will be participating in the big dance.
