A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...
Question:
I want to get some type of blackberry / email phone, but have no idea what model would best for me. I have pretty big hands so the smallest doesnt really appeal, and I dont need alot of features other than a good phone and email abilities. A headset is also mandatory.
I use T-mobile - would probably want to stay with them. Email and voice are the only two things I think I would really use. No budget issues - right solution would warrant accepting prices. The only thing I need is an unlimited nationwide phone package as I am a large minute user and am in other states as well. Any ideas?

Answer:
T-Mobile USA has many diffeent e-mail phone options available. These options include the Sidekick II, Blackberry, HP iPAQ, and the Treo.
Considering you're specifically looking for e-mail and voice, I can see no reason to steer you to the Sidekick, Treo, or iPAQ since they are more like PDAs than cell phones. Each of them have so many features, it may detract from your ability to send e-mail and take phone calls. So, you sir, want a Blackberry.
The Blackberry
So... T-Mobile offers 4 different Blackberry models. Don't let it overwhelm you, there are actually very few differences between them.
The 7100t
The flagship model is currently the 7100t, even though it is the least expensive. Be aware that the 7100 is more like a smartphone than a mail device, so the form factor has been trimmed accordingly. This means that the keyboard layout has also sufferred, so if you plan on sending a lot of e-mails, you'll probably want to go for one of the bigger models.
With the smaller form factor it's easier to carry around, and is currently the only one that includes Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth allows you to purchase nifty wireless headsets and car kits so you're not tethered to the phone with a wire. On top of that, it includes a built-in speakerphone as well.
The 6230, 7230, and 7730
There is actually little difference in terms of features between these models. Here it is...
The difference between the 6230 and the 7230 is the color screen. It's your call there, but I'd really recommend color...especially since it's only 50 bucks more.
The difference between the 7230 and the 7730 is the shape (the 7730 is a little taller, but not as wide), the 7730 has more of a squarish screen, and the 7730 comes with a USB cradle instead of just a cable.
The Plans
T-Mobile doesn't list a nationwide unlimited plan, but that doesn't mean that one isn't available. The highest they show is a 5000 minute nationwide plan for $129.99 per month (that's nearly unlimited), and you could always add on the Blackberry services for an additional fee.
Advice
Unless you're rarely going to send e-mail and want Bluetooth, I'd narrow it between the 7230 and the 7730.
If you've got big hands, the 7230 may be a better fit since it will be easier to type on. Plus, I like the wider screen for e-mail phones because you get more text on one line. However, take some time to look at both models, and choose the one that you like the feel of better. Each model comes with a wired handset for handsfree talk.
