Universal Remote Not Working TV

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

I have a Philips TV, model number PR1907X101, that will not operate from remote. I just bought universal remote and still no go. What can I do?

Answer:

The first thing to do is make sure the new universal remote has been properly programmed. These remotes can control hundreds of devices, but you need to input the proper brand code of your device before the remote will be able to control it. These codes are listed in the user manual of the remote, and you'll be able to find programming instructions as well.

Oftentimes there are several codes listed for a particular brand, so you may need to try several of them before you hit the right one.

If your remote has a code search feature, activate it and run through all of the codes in the remote. It's always possible that a code for another brand will operate the TV.

If it still doesn't work after you've tried all of the codes, read the article "Tech Myth: 'Universal' Remote Controls".
