I Can't Get to the Input On My VCR

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

I have a Sony trv138 analog camcorder and cannot seem to get it to copy recorded material to vhs. I cannot find line selector on vcr to set it to input, I'm pretty sure that is my problem. All this stuff is old and I have no manuals. Would LOVE some help, thanks!

Answer:

Most VCRs can be switched to the line-level inputs in one of the following ways:

  • Find a button on the remote control or front panel that says "Input", "line", "Video" or something similar.
  • Use the VCR's channel selector keys, and change channels below channel two. Many VCRs will cycle through the various inputs between channel 125 (69 for antenna) and channel 2.

Before you begin hunting for the inputs, make sure you've plugged your device into a jack labled "IN", and make a note of it's label (like LINE 1, or LINE 2). This will help you when you search for the proper input.
