How Do I Back Up My Contacts on My Motorola Phone?

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

I have a new E815 Motorola phone. I can't seem to find any software that allows me to back it up to my computer - this software was available for the old V710 (terrible phone), and the cable is the same. The local Verizon people said they weren't going to make it avaible since somehow people could use it for their internet connection??? (though vcast??)

Anyway, I need to be able to back up my phonebook and wonder if anyone knows of a 3rd party software package available?

Answer:

Motorola offers a software suite called Motorola Phone Tools, which offers a wide variety of software applications to do numerous things on a Motorola Cell Phone. One of the applications can sync your contacts to your PC. Of course, you'll also be able to load software programs, ringtones, and more to your cell phone.

Motorola's website is a little conflicting when it comes to compatibility. One part of the site mentions phone tools with the E815, but the phone tools page does not actually list the E815 as a compatible product. I'd double check before you buy.

Verizon, staying true to a long tradition of finding ways to charge customers for EVERYTHING, has developed the "Backup Assistant". Once this application is installed on your phone, your phonebook is occasionally backed up to a Verizon secure server. Of course, this convenience will cost you $1.99 per month for as long as you wish to have this information backed up.

Considering that Phone Tools is a thirty dollar program, you will save money using Verizon's Backup Assistant for any period of time under 15 months.
