Answer:

After reviewing the manual for the VX-6100 I'll agree with you; it's not very helpful. However, this is becoming more common as electronic devices are adding more and more features.

I'm guessing that the phone has been setup for voice dialing, and when that person calls the phone is saying "call from" and then the name you spoke into the phone for voice dialing.

There seems to be two locations within the phone's menu to customize the ringer type. It's difficult to determine the reason for this by only reading the manual. In both places it seems you can adjust the ringer for different incoming call types (eg. Caller ID, No Caller ID, etc.). I would adjust the ringer type for each call in both places of the menu. Most likely, one of them is set to speak based based on your voice dial settings, so adjustments for all call types should solve the problem.

For the first area press: menu(left soft key), 7, 2.
For the second area press: menu, 9, 1, 1 (funny that it's 911)

Make sure you save your changes by pressing "ok" after you select the ringer.

If you own a VX6100, add your comments into the discussion page that might shed some light on this odd issue.
