Video Playback / Recording Devices

Pls Help... On the display picture of my VCR shows a down arrow and it appears locked (but this time it doesn't have the "L" on display), no remote buttons or VCR buttons work and nothing but the display button on the remote worked....I unplugged the VCR and plugged it in and now the display on VCR will not even work....batteries are good...I can not find a reset button on VCR so I could not try that. I tried pushing the pause butten for 15 secsbut nothing happened, nothing works and I know it is simple, this happened once before but my mannual is in storage.

I was impressed with the DVP-NS50P/S I purchased for my father last Christmas, so I decided to look for a new DVD player for myself. I found this player after a bit of research (Google), and purchased it (at Circuit City for about $130) for its upscaling capability (converts 480p discs to 720p or 1080i).

I recently purchased the Arcane US Slim 5.1 DVD player from ebay:

And it clearly states that it plays AVI's. I am new to this whole malarky, but when I try to play any disks I have with Avi's on them, the machine reads "no disk" but it will however read DVD disks.

Im at a loss as to what is wrong; I am using Divx 5.0 on various forms of 700/800meg Cd's. Not CD-R or DVD disks.
