Television and Home Theater

I have a mitsubishi wt46809 rear projection tv. push on button and green light appears fora couple seconds then goes back off. I bought a 5 year etended warrantee 4 1/2 years ago when I bought this new at " The Wiz " in N.J. ind out that they went bankruptand I'm screwed. Local repair shop has tv and says I need a new convergence module at $500 +, Can anyone please tell me if this sounds like a realistic solution and price? Thanks

Being an old retired electronic tech., I'm confused by the new technology and components. My world consisted of vacuum tubes, four banded resistors and paper capacitors. I am presently chasing a problem in a Sony 35KV42 TV. I get a continuous blinking standby light (no pause) I have looked up possible causes and am presently looking at the power supply as my problem. I need some help testing a VDR. I suspect VDR 601 as being in trouble, but don't know how to test it. I have always lifted off one side, checked the band colors and measured it.

My monitor keps flashing black and then back to normal. Sometimes it does it a few times in a row and other times it doesn't do it for a while. It also seems to change the colour of fonts and borders sometimes and also text is sometimes highlighted when it shouldn't be.
