Television and Home Theater

This is a long shot, but can anyone help me?  A week ago I purchased a 23" Grundig TV - t63 430/1 and I bought it knowing that not all of the remote control buttons worked.  The tv is quite old I think and didn't have the manual.

I have a universal remote which works just fine for everything apart from the picture controls ie brightness/contrast etc.  Although the settings which were already on there are ok, this may not always be the case.  There are some buttons on a panel behind the on/off switch that I can't work out what they're for.

We came back from vacation and after turning on tv, it is stuck changing channels, none of the front panel controls work and the timer light stays on.  We have to unplug tv to turn it off.  What possibly happened? Can it be fixed?

Need help on a starting point. T.V. comes on and back off . I need a schematic for this tv please.Can any one help me!
