Television and Home Theater

we "inherited" a 50" toshiba tv. the model number is 50H81. our uncle had it and they watched tv from 6 am to 11 pm everyday without fail. it started to just shut off on them, so they would unplug it for a few days and then it would work fine again. the last time it shut off on them they decided to get a new one. they gave us the old one. it was working great for 4 days, then it shut off and the red light in front blinks, but there is of course no picture and no sound. we had it unplugged now for 2 weeks, and tried it again, but it still is not working.

Larry, Before I got the blinking green light of death on my Mitsubishi WS-55805 I made the (apparent) mistake of entering the service mode. I wanted to do the convergence alignment described in the manual which I thought might be better than the one accessible in the regular menus. I changed the DTV mode from Auto to HD thinking that this is the mode I wanted. The display was showing my external hdtv receiver channel which was connected to the component inputs (not input 3) for the dtv input. When HD was selected the tv display from my receiver looked like it lost lock.

I have a 5 year old toshiba 50HDX82, and the screen has turned entirely green.  This has happened before, and has gone away after resting the TV for a while.   The funny thing is that the colour is fine on high def channels.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!
