Sounds like it could be the q box, does the remote work ? if not and not front panel buttons, the q box has caused this kind of issue before. The picture can have various kids of issues. Some people might say it was the optical block, but this has no effect on the remote control or front panel buttons. This is the q box part number A1152712A it is quite expensive, if you do try to purchase this and replace it make sure that you check the return policy and make sure you return the core if they want it to prevent a core charge.
This part is a combination of several pc boards that work together; it contains the main micro and video processing circuits, virtually impossible to troubleshoot. Be very careful when removing there are many wires and connectors of all types. All will have some kind of clasp holding the wire in don't tug on the wires without releasing the clasps.

There is an sb about this issue, and the fix is the q box, but to be on the safe side before you buy the q box make sure that you can return it if it does not fix your problem. I am not looking at the set, it is much easier and more accurate for the tech to do the diagnostic his self, you may want to call a tech out to verify what i am saying. What you are telling me sounds like this problem but the tech may discover something else in his diagnostic. A visual inspection is usually revealing.
