When I turn my sony on the screen comes on with a blue screen. There are light blue lines across the screen. There is also the DVD input label in the upper left corner of the screen. No sound. Then the set turns off and the standby light blinks 8 times.
I have heard different reports on it meaning the D board needs replacing and others that say it is the sound board. I had a repair man call me back after he checked it out claiming to have to do research on the internet for this model in order to find the problem. He said that it was going to cost $500.00 to fix.
I would like to find a cheaper way to fix the set. Otherwise I might as well spend an extra $200.00 and by a new one.
Thank you for any insight into how best to handle this.

Your blue screen with lines is indicative of a CRT problem common with SONY RA-6 chasses. You could try adjusting the blue G2 to lower the blue CRT intensity and this might give you a temporary fix. However, in the end, the blue picture tube is on its way out, and this is an expensive repair.
Do you have instruction on how to get to G2?
There should be 2 screws on both side right around the back of corners of the speaker grille.. Then you Firmly pull speaker grille forward to release. Then unscrew cardboard then G2 control should be there.
Be careful not to pull the grille to far it could jerk the wires that are on the controls.
