Hi,

Hi,

There are 6 fuses under the heat sinks.  Fuse  position corresponds to different functions within the ICs. If Red Vert or Red Hor adjustment is disabled, here is what happens:

  1. Op amp or other component inside STK IC 392 560 or 570 becomes shorted for various reasons, part of initial failure.
  2. Protection Fuse associated with the failed color adjustment amplifier opens because too much current is flowing.
  3. TV Repair technician or other fixer replaces the STK 392 IC without doing damage and has good solder connections, plugs in correct places, quality part, etc.
  4. TV operates, but no Red Vertical adjustment or alignment.  No Flash Focus, etc.,

Solution:

1. Change 2 fuses under the heat sink at the red plug end of the ICs.  2 X 3.15A Pico fuse.

If you have an ohmmeter check the fuses in circuit for short or open. Do not worry about the Green function fuses located in the middle and the Blue function fuses at the other end of the ICs.  Looking at the screen tells you that Blue and Green are lined up.  Leave their fuses  alone.

Do not keep trying to adjust or use magic focus until you have replaced the fuse(s). After changing the fuses, turn on TV, switch input to VHF antenna, even if no signal.  Do magic focus and adjustments in VHF normal or full screen.

Then switch to HD input if you use it.  Do magic focus and adjustments in convergence user's screen. Magic focus is different and saved for each screen size with vhf full as default/reference.

We do many Sony TV convergence repair jobs across Canada.  First step is identify the fault, as in Red Vert, or Green Hor misalignment.  If only one color is twisted or mis-aligned, usually change ICs and look for open fuses relating to the faulty function. If more than one color is twisted, then a different fuse is open, located on power supply board. (and maybe one or more function fuses).

Would you happen to have a

Would you happen to have a diagram where these fuses would be located or a image of the fuse themself before I start poking and prodding? Also how would I determ which side/end is the red?
