Hello Everyone, I have had this tv for a while now, and never had a problem. Recently, it has refused to turn on. Instead, it will click, the green light will turn on next to the power button, and then it will click again and turn off in about 5 seconds. I have read a big, and it sounds like the consensus is that this problem is caused by bad or blown capacitors. I took off the front and back panels and shined a flashlight in there looking for blown tops, and didn't find see anything out of the ordinary. Advice -
Does this sound like the right problem/cause?
Am I looking in the right place for the right thing?
Where else could I look?
I have a multimeter and I am pretty handy with electronics, I have soldered circuit boards and I know the basics of how electronic components work. I have never worked on anything this big (or powerful), but I think that with a big of hand holding and safety advice I could get through it. Is there anyone out there that could help me?
Thanks, Mike
Mike, I have the same problem. Have you received an answer to it yet?
Thanks, Brandon
I'm pretty sure I have the same issue. I'm thinking of getting a kit ($70.00) from a website that would replace the convergence chips, pico fuses, and resistors. I don't know that there all bad, but it would be worth it to fix this TV. If someone had this problem and fixed it, please let us know, thanks. -Craig
Update:
I've come across several helpful forum posts, but haven't yet found one with a solution to this exact problem.
As Mike described, when I press the power button I hear a "click" and the green power light comes on, approximately two seconds later the light goes out and I hear the same "click". The screen never lights up, and the power light is not on long enough to do the "menu + input" error code trick.
I opened the TV up, looked around and noticed something labeled "IC9A51" (listed as: HIC - SE110N in the service manual) had grey "goo" that was pushed way up in the plastic tube, and the bottom of the tube seemed brown/burned (see picture 1). I also noticed what looks like burn marks around several components on the board (picture 2). I was hoping that by looking, someone could tell if these are related to what's wrong with the TV.
I also have a multimeter, so if there's specific info that would help, I can try and get that.
If anyone has any advice or perhaps fixed a similar issue I'm sure we would all greatly appreciate the help. Thanks -Craig

Update:
I installed a replacement for the
"IC9A51" (listed as: HIC - SE110N in the service manual),
unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. At this point replacing
other parts would just be guess work, so unless someone can suggest
another course of action, I'll hold on to it for a few more days then
take it down to the recycling center. I was hoping to have a solution
for anyone else having the same issue, but the good news is, it
appears this problem is rare.

Update:
I figured out the error code trick finally (I thought the power light had to be on), for anyone who might have the same problem:
1. Hold down menu + input at the same time.
2. Wait for approx 5 seconds.
3. Count the flashes. It will be something like: flash, flash, pause, flash, flash
The error code will repeat a few times, then consult the service manual to check the code.
Mine was 2-4 (which wasn't in the service manual, weird), from what I gather that's a "Vertical Deflection Circuit Error". I'm going to continue my research, if anyone has any info about this, let me know.
