DVD hook up question

I have a Phillips-Magnavox TV, model TS2744 c106.  I just recently signed up for ATT's U-Verse
which has the fiber optic signal coming thru the coax cable, into the DVR
recorder, which feeds into the DVR player and then into the VCR and then into
the TV.

I also have available to connect to this TV, a DVD
player,(not currently hooked up but was in the past when we had ATT Cable).
There is only one coax cable input jack on the back of this TV and NO 3 prong,
3 color, cable hook up capability.

How can i hook up the DVD and the VCR to the TV at the same
time? Do I need a 2 way input coax cable switch of some kind so I can switch
back and forth between the VCR and DVD being input to the TV ??

The TV still works great and i can not justify getting a new
one until this one craps out.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Sarge,

Hi Sarge,

Let me see if I can break this down and make it a little simpler for you.

You have a long string of daisy chained devices, and while you'll need to keep those connections for recording purposes between devices, you'll run into problems with the DVD player. A DVD player's video output cannot be ran through a VCR or other recording device due to copy protections on commercial DVDs. To connect a DVD player to a TV that only has a coaxial connection, you'll need something called an "RF Modulator."

To simplify your hookup, I'd look at picking up an RF modulator and a 4-device A/V switch. What this will allow you to do is connect all your playback devices via line level connections (yellow, red, white cables) to the switch so you can easily pick which device you want to see on your TV. Drop the RF modulator off the output of the switch and connect it to the TV, thereby modulating all your sources as you switch. Follow?

There are even RF modulator/switch combos with both pieces built in, and best of all, they're not that expensive. Philips makes a 4x1 automatic with a built in modulator, which I've used on one of my older TVs for about a year. Works great. See it here.
