I have read some of the post regarding this model and the convergence ic problems of it.
I also have this TV set, purchased back in 2003. Everything was great until, I to, fell victim to the (after reading the posts), what I believe, is the covergence ic going out. My green, red and blue are all out of whack and the covergence feature does not work anymore (I can't move the colors to align them).
Two questions for anyone who can answer them:
1. I am not an expert on electronics, however, I have built circuit boards in high school (if that counts), so I am familiar with soldering, but not as experienced as many of you. I have called the Sony number for repair and they want to charge me $98 just for the guy to come out. What is an average price to get this repaired through Sony?
2. For someone like me, is this something fairly simple enough to do myself (given I have the tools and service manual)?
Speaking of service manual, does anyone know where I can get my hands on one?
