I had a repair tech in today to fix my television, but I'm weary of his diagnosis. The guy came in, pulled out the lamp, hit the reset button a few times, and proceeded to tell me the unit needed a new optical engine and pointed out that a fan was running constantly. All this without even opening the back to look at it. Am I crazy or does this sound fishy!!!!
A little background. The picture went out about a week ago, prior to going out it flickered and the color seemed a bit off. I assumed it was the lamp since I've replaced it before, but that did not fix the problem, so I called an authorized MITS repairman.
After the tech left, I did a little web browsing and found that the most common problem effecting these televisions is the capacitors. Furthermore, the fan he mentioned should be on all the time from what I've read. When I turn the set on, I hear the other fans kick in, so I don't think thats an issue.
Could someone please send me the capacitor fix and a copy of the service manual for Model 52525.
Thanks,
Chris
Just a follow-up. I spoke with the company that looked at the unit, and was told that the tech's don't open thev tv's because of issues with dust/pet hair. So basically, it's not very technical at all, the guys look at the pretty flashing lights and decide based on past history what they think the problem may be. Not much of a diagnostic evaluation if you ask me.
Does anyone know what the codes are for the blinking lights, and where i can find a list of them.
Thanks,
Chris
