Hi, When I push the power button the green light comes on for about two seconds then I can hear a relay clicking then it turns off. I've heard the problem might be in the power supply board. I checked the horizontal deflection transistor in the circuit and it looked bad (base-emitter 000) but when I took it out it was good and metered out like it should. I understand that this is not the blinking light of death that I have been reading in some threads and was wondering if someone has experienced this problem and could lead me in the right direction. I am experienced in troubleshooting electronics but get lost in TV's. PLEASE HELP!!
Yes, this transistor will measure 000 ohms in circuit because there is a small horizontal drive transformer between the base and the emitter of this transitor. This is a normal thing. Now for your problem. With the set plugged in, press the menu and the input button and see what code is flashed on the timer light. There will be a flashing of the timer light or a single flash, then a pause, then another series of flashes. Most likely though, with my experience with this TV set, the convergence IC's are bad or shorted in this set. If you have no experience with TV set repair, play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good luck with the repair.
Hi again, Thank you for the reply, I will try the diagnostic test with the timer light. When you say IC's, I take it there must be more than one. If this is the problem will I have to replace the whole board or can I just replace the IC's ? And are they located on the board next to the PS? .. I have done many component level repairs on electronic devices including TV's quite a few years ago, I am just a little foggy with the full operation of the circuitry of TV's but am very competent on doing the repair. I'm in the process of getting a repair manual also.
Get a service manual and send me a copy and I will see how I can assist you.
