Not sure that's really possible considering the D-TiVo doesn't sport a cable tuner, nor will it control a cable box (as far as I'm aware). Any TiVo junkies out there who could spread some additional info here?

You really can't, but if you have cable TV too, you could find a used TiVo S-1 or S-2 that would do it for you fairly cheep.
Or Get a Slingbox and when Sling Player 2.0 comes out you can record cable with it.
