I was handed a WS65809 1080HD (yeah-I know) because the display developed verticle lines. I promptly applied my extensive electronics knowledge and determined that by slightly >forcing< the HD decoder card to bend/warp in a specific "C-shape" direction- the picture cleared-up! I quickly applied the approate amount of plastic tubing and duct tape to force the card to hold it's new shape, and all was well!
untill, of course, the bad micro connection went worse and the card would require random 'taps' to fix it.
I deduced that I must had used an off brand of duct tape and it was not gripping well enough to hold.
since I have no electronics-repair grade duct tape on hand I am asking for HELP!
The HD decoder card is marked 2HDW.
The 'warp" was: edges to side A - center pushed to side B. A slight "C" shape, if you will.
Is there an area I should try to look at and test before I had it over to a pro?
would this be worthy of replacing the fuses and checking the IC's? (a process I see mentioned often)
It seems to me to be a faulty connection point/points on the 2HDW card itself.
But where?
First thing you should do is to re-solder the connection on the connector that the board plugs into. That sounds like your problem. If that does not work, then there is a bad connection else where on the board or perhaps the main board. These types of repairs are not simply cut and dry. You will have to find the bad connection as it could be anywhere in the set. But like I said before, start with the Connector first that the 2HDW card plus into for bad or cold solder connections. Good Luck
