I came across this tv for free from a customer of ours. He told me he thought there was an issue with the "green resistor". I dont know if this is true but if so, can this part still be purchased? If so where, and where is it on the tv?
I have not opened the tv yet because i just got it. I took a picture of the convergence screen and would like your opinions on it. Is it worth fixing? is it a tough fix? I need to be lead in the right direction and it looks like i can hear.
thanks in advance. Here is the link to the picture.
P.S. Sorry for the crappy pic but should be able to make it out
You are going to need to locate the two convergence IC's insude the set and unsolder them and resolder in two new ones. This is not a job for the novice or someone who does not know how to solder on solid state printed circuit boards.
Thank you very much Larry. I kinda figured that would be the problem, but its good to hear it from you. I already pulled out the board and looked over everything. I am very fimiliar with a soldering iron so i hope it goes well.
Is there a resistor that is a "GREEN" Resistor? If so, should I change it as well while im in there??
Thanks a bunch again.
What do you mean by the term "Green" resistor?
I dont know. That is what the guy who gave me the tv said. I didnt know it at the time but he had a service company come out and look at it. They told his wife what the problem was and it got to him as "green" resistor.
He called me today and said it was the deflection board. Dont know what or where that is but i ordered the IC's for the tv last night so hopefully it was misdiagnosed and these will fix it.
If it is the deflection Asembly, you can get one HERE. If the power supply is blown out, you can get one HERE. The only problem with replacing the boards, they are so darn expensive! If you go that route, just double check the numbers onm the original board first, as you cannot return these once you get them.
Wow thats pricey. I will try to replace the IC's first and if that doesnt fix it I will probably roll it out to the curb for someone else to fix. We will see. I will let you know if the IC's work.
Thanks again for all your help Larry, I also have a ws55859 that had a blinking light issue (green blinking light) issue. It hasnt done in a while but is there something that i can look at if it happens again or fix so it wont happen again
I have a fix for you for that set. If you do not do it now, when the set does go out, the DM board will be bad and that will cost you about a grand to replace. Leave an e-mail address and I will send you the service manual as well as the fix for the DM board repair for the Mitsubshi. Good Luck
Larry, you can send it to [email protected]
Thanks again Larry I really appriciate all your help
Larry,
Unfortunetly the new IC's didnt work. Is there a piece on this board that goes bad that can be fixed or do you have to replace the whole board. I dont know that I am quite ready to give up on the set yet.
I did go to pioneers site and there is core charge for these boards. I also did take out two boards to see if anything visually bad but found nothing although did resolder a few things that looked to be iffy. I think that I am looking at the correct boards but what do both look like. I cant seem to find any pics of them
You will need to check on the schematic for bad fuses or circuit protectors in the power supply or by the convergence IC's.
By the way, how did the Mitsubishi work out for you?
did not get a chance to look at it yet. Been busy with pioneer and other household things. I bought a service manual and schematic for the pioneer and was wandering if i sent it to you if you could point me in the right direction on where to start the obvious to you. I would be searching forever.
My dad has a mits ws55919 and sometimes when he turns it on the picture will bow in and "snap" back to normal (kinda concave as if you pushed in on the center of the screen) after a few seconds. doesnt happen all the time. I also noticed (once) that while changing channels you could see the seperated red, green, and blue thin lines bowed from the top towards the center of the screen on the directv banner. They went away as fast about as fast as they came
