my sony's ic's have bit the dust like every one else . my red convergence is all out wack, will not line up or flash focus . ive got my d board (a-1302-180-a) out of the set and im debating on weather to replace the ic's or replace the whole board .
can some one please tell me what all i need to do if i replace just the ic's . what kind of soldering gun and solder . what all will i have to do once i get it back in as far as alighning the picture .
i talked to a local tv man and he was telling me something about even i i replaced the board i would spend all day realighning my picture . i thaought all you had to do when adjusting convergence was go to the maint screen and line the crosses up .
if it wouldnt be much trouble could someone send me a copy of that service manual i keep hearing about [email protected]

Part of the repair is to re-align the convergence, if you are lucky it will be close and you will only need to do minor adjustments. As far as parts are concerned you need the convergence stk ic's and any fuses that have opened up. use an ohm meter to check these fuses. Any pencil type of soldering iron will work, use solder wick to remove the solder. If you have never soldered before, you need to practice on some junk board. Especially in removing solder, this is the harder part. You can easily damage the copper traces on a pc board. read this

There are over 100 points of convergence, over 5 diffrent picture modes. So if it is off bad it can take some time to align. The board is not avaialbe from sony anymore. Remember to check the "G" board fuses.
what type of heat sink compound do i need ?
any silicone heat sink compound. it is easly available. usaly in a tube, white in color.
great news ! i found a electronic repair shop in knoxville and they said they would put two new stk 570 ic's in the d board plus check the fuses and replace them if needed ,$60 .
but im still going to have to check the fuses on the g board . does the pico fuses always blow when the ic go's bad or is that just some times ? one way or another im going to check them ,im just wondering .
