I have a Hitachi 50" rear projection big screen. The set works great, has excellent picture and sound. Problem: It will work perfectly then the picture scrambles. I can tap around the rf connection or just pull on the coaxial cable and the picture straightens up and will work for hours and even days at a time. But then out of the blue the picture scrambles again or when one of the kids plays near the set it scrambles. I can tap it or pull on the cable and it straightens out again. The model # is 50UX23K. Is there something I can do to fix this myself? I am pretty good with a soldering iron and have done some minor repairs to power supply boards and mobo's. If anyone can give me some pointers or advice on this problem....sure would appreciate it....thank you.
Well, First make sure it is not the cable it's self. Does it do it when playing back a dvd? or only on cable. If you can verify that it is only doing in while watching tv through the rf connector. it could be that the tuner has some bad solder connections in it. If the tuner has bad solder connections, you are in for a tricky repair. Soldering inside a tuner is a very delicate matter and easy to destroy the tuner with a solder bridge. It could also be the pins that connect the tuner to the pc board. try re-soldering these pins. This is not as tricky. You may even try to solder some connections around the tuner and see if this helps. Also look at the board and see if you can find any bad solder joints. they will have rings around them, once you see one you will know what i am talking about. at any rate be careful. you can either fix it or make it worse if you are not careful. Good soldering skills are a must.
