old old TV - can I connect it to a DVD/VCR?

I have a really old TV that only has an aerial socket on it. I also have a DVD/VCR with all the usual connections: SCART, RF, S-Video and 3 little sockets labelled "R" "L" and "coaxial".

Is it possible to connect these up??

The TV was free so it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't connect but it'd be nice not to have to get another one.

 Thanks!

Hi katchmc,

Hi katchmc,

You can indeed hook up your VCR/DVD player to the old TV, however it's going to take an additional part to make that happen. If you only want to use the VCR section, you can connect the RF lead to the TV and away you go, but you most likely want to use the DVD as well. The DVD video will only output through the SCART connection.

In order to connect it up to the TV to watch DVDs, you'll need a device called an RF Modulator. This device plugs in to the SCART connection on the player, and outputs it RF to the old TV. Here's an example of one: http://www.telly-leads.co.uk/rf-modulator.htm

You should be able to get one for your TV at any electronics store in your area.  A similar question was asked some time ago, you can read the answer to it here: http://www.techlore.com/article/11608/Will-My-1991-LXI-TV-Work-With-DVD-/

Thank you! I reckon I'll try

Thank you! I reckon I'll try just connecting the video player - it's an RF to coax lead that I want isn't it?

Cheers,
