Hi guys, Im in quite the panic at the moment, My 50" Mitsubishi thats been going strong with me for 15 years has halted operations. I know most people would tell me huck it and join the DLP HDTV revolution but call me old fashioned, I love this wood framed behemoth. I was watching it today and it shut off on me, I thought i had pressed the power button so I turned over the remote to power it back on. I observed the tv power on, but the screen was red with a faint picture in the background. The red continued to get brighter and brighter, untill, within 10 seconds of being powered on it shut off. I tried once more, and i saw the red so I shut it down and when i did, The after image was like a small orange explosion on the screen, the orange/red circle expanded for a moment then dissapated. If there is anyoen who can help me with this problem, i cant loost this tv. :( Thank you so much and thank god for this forum. Greg
You have a problem with the red CRT driver board, or the red picture tube is bad. I would tend to sway to the bad picture tube. A set this old, if replacement parts were available, would not, at least in my opinion, be worth investing anything into it. Yes, I understand the set has been a good one for the past 15 years, but to tell you the truth, the last 2 or three years were a given. Sorry to be the deliverer of bad news, but I say it as I see it. There are still some store that have the CRT based wood framed behemoths, as you called it, available for less then 1000 bucks. Let us know what you decided to do and what you replaced your set with.
