I have a Sony rear projection TV model KP53HS10. Back in April I had this problem with the picture blinking intermittently. I posted the thread and received some beneficial help. I ended up getting ripped off for $160. for a service call buy a tech that was recommended by sony. He spent about 15 min, adjusted the G2 screen control. Well it's blinking again and I know the area it's in but not the exact adjustment screw (unless it's labeled). Can you help identify which adjustment screw it is? Is it possible that this fix will work twice?
Ok, the blinking on and off is due to the akb circuit, when he adjusted the g2 it helps balance out the problem, but usaly adjusting the g2 is just masking the real problem. One of your picture tubes (crt's) are probibly going bad. Usaly when the tech adjustest the G2 to fix this problem he probibly felt that it was due to tube wear, but that in my experinece does not fix this problem for long. Sony has a circuit in their tv's that will blank the picture if one of the tubes are weak, or not using enough curernt thorugh the cathode. This circuit senses the un balanced current then mutes the picture. The only explanation that i get is that they do this so the customer doesn't have to look at a bad picture. But Whatever!
It sounds like to repair it properly will cost a bundle. The TV is almost 8 yrs old and I'll be moving in 6 mos so is it possible to to tweak it some more till I move then I can just trash it. Sony makes a nice product but if you're not in their corp they won't help at all. I think I'd rather look at a bad picture than trying to sync my eyes with the set
