Samsung HLN617w

I purchased this set in 2004.  In October 2006, the Lite Engine had to be replaced.  Almost to the day in 2007, the set demonstrated the same symtoms i.e. the three lights in the front were all on solid and the power would not come on.  I turned off the set at the surge protector and let sit for several hours.  I then powered up the set again with no change in the result.  YOu can hear the fan running and all three lights in front are on solid.  I presume it is the lite engine again, but I cannot believe I have to pay another $900 to repair only a year later.  I have not seen this issue on any tech board as of yet, can anyone add insight to my problem.  Can this repair be made by a novice?
