Hello
I have a Sony KP57HW40 which intermittently goes blue (loses all reds). Sometimes it stays that way for a long time, especially if there is lightning in the area, and sometimes it goes back and forth between normal and blue, and sometimes it just stays normal for hours. But it is getting worse. Do I need to have a projector replaced or what?
Thanks

that particular model had allot of picture tube(crt) trouble. Probibly will need a new crt. but other things can cause this as well. it could be a problem on the neck module, or a connector problem. the "Projector" is not a part, and you have to fix the specific problem in the set. You might want a pro to look at it. this problem may become expensive if they need to replace the red crt.
Thanks for the help; what do you mean by "expensive"??? $200, $500, $1000???
Jerry
I hate to put a price on anything, because i am not repairing it. but if the crt needs replaced you are looking at 500+ possiably.
Thanks for the help; we just bought this house and this tv came with it; worked great for 3 months. Could any of this have to do with house line voltage or a lightning strike? It did not have a surge suppressor until I read that I needed one, after the ligntning storm. Do you think it is worth the $500 since essentially we got it for nothing? (would have paid the same for the house with or without it).
Thanks
Jerry
new it was a couple thousand dollar television. But projection crt televisions are on their way out, and the flat panel tvs are the way of the future. On the other hand there are allot of projection televisions out there including mine that are still in-service. And if mine had a bad crt i would have to think pretty hard about fixing it.
OK, Thanks for your time, I will try and get someone to look at it. And I don't think there are any flat panels at 57" and if there are they must be plasma and very expensive.
