Mitsubishi WS-55613 - Black Screen

Until I found Techlore, I thought I was alone with my problems with the WS-55613. I too have suffered with the "Blinking Green Light of Death" intermittently since I bought the TV 3 years ago. Recently this problem has been compounded by another issue. After the TV is on for a few minutes (sometimes not even that long), it clicks and the screen goes blank for a few seconds, followed by purple horizontal lines (seems like it looses the signal coming into it). I am calling this the "Black Screen of Death". I turn the TV off, then back on and repeat the process over and over (pretty frustrating). Anyway after reading all the articles about the puffed 1000uf 16v caps on the DM Module, I figured I would give that a shot. I pulled the DM Module out and sure enough the caps were puffed on the top. Replaced them, put the TV back together and the TV came back on. Just when I was thinking everything was good to go, the TV did the "Black Screen of Death" on me again.

Anybody have any ideas or instructions for tackling this issue?

You may have other bad

You may have other bad capacitors in the sweep power supply, the vertical sweep circuit, or possibly in the main power supply. They may be swollen on the top just like the DM board was. This is obviously another problem that developed in the set around the same time the DM started failing. If the sound goes out also when the picture goes out, I would think the problem is in the Main power supply or the sweep power supply. You also may want to try the built in diagnostics. Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and the problem happens, and you get the regular red blinking light, hold down the input and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds. The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Here are the error codes for this model of TV set, and the corresponding problem: 12= no error detected, 21= X-ray protection, 22= Short circuit protection, and 23= Loss of vertical or horizontal deflection

Good Luck

Larry,

Larry,

Thanks for responding so quickly. Error code 12 flashes so that isn't any help. Yes, the sound does go out when I lose the picture. Do you have instructions for finding and removing the Main Power Supply and the Sweep Power Supply. Thanks.

Larry Dillon
Sorry I do not, but you

Sorry I do not, but you should look around the entire board for swollen tops or goo leaking out the bottoms of the capacitors. Thats a good statrt.

Larry, I know you probably

Larry, I know you probably are tired of responding to Mitsubishi owners. I have a WS-65513 with the continuous blink and won't power up. I have read your comments on the DM board. Can you email me any instructions you have available and that hopefully conatains pictures. Thank you in advance.

Larry,

Larry,

I went in for another look. I checked every capacitor I could find. No sign of bulging or leaking from any of them. I saw some conversation from MileHighMadMan. Sounds like he has the same issue!!!

Please let me know if you come across a fix for this issue.

In the meantime, my WS-55613 will be used as a $2,800 stand for my trusty old Magnavox. It's going to be a long winter here in Alaska!!!!

John, before you changed the

John, before you changed the capacitors, did you clean the board of? made sure there was no residue of any capacitor juice on the board. Are you sure about all the capacitors on the board are soldered tight ? Double check your work. If that does not help, maybe the board was eaten away by leaky capacitors.

Mitsubishi WS-55613: In Sept,

Mitsubishi WS-55613: In Sept, I had the blinking green light of death, paid to have it fixed and now, a month later, I have the black screen with purple lines from most inputs or a fuzzy screen from my antenna for local hi-def channels.  Any solution for the black screen and purple lines? or am I better off replacing the entire set? I have not read very positive feedback on this TV and even though it is not yet 4 years, I am considering scrapping it. Does any company in the phoenix area purchase bad televisions for parts?

ws-55613 suffers from a bad 9

ws-55613 suffers from a bad 9 volt regulator on the signal board. its right behind the terminal board between 2 small capacitors. this causes the black screen of death. i promise.

Larry Dillon
You are right! It is IC9C25.

You are right! It is IC9C25. It is on the signal board. The IC is a BA09FP. This IC supplies 9 volts to the terminal board.

You have given me hope!!! It was a long cold winter without the big screen TV. To get me motivated, can you tell me if the 9 volt regulator is easy to change out. Any instructions you could provide would be helpful. Thanks.

Larry Dillon
No I am sorry I do not. The

No I am sorry I do not. The regulator is on a small heat sink right behind the input board. Pull off the input board and you should see it right there staring at you. It is a simple 1 amp 9 volt regulator in a TO220 case. Right on the board should be the IC9C25.

Jomarie
Larry,

Larry,

The 9v regulator on the signal board was the culprit for the "Black Screen of Death". It isn't too painful to remove and replace. The best way to get to it is to remove the terminal board, then you have easy access to the regulator. The regulator solders from the top of the signal board.

Thanks for all of the valuable information you have given me.

Hey there! I've been trying

Hey there! I've been trying to troubleshoot my mitsubishi WD-52825 online and only receive site information from advertisers wanting a subscription for info. Recently, I was watching (cable) television when the cable box went out. I've now learned the cable company was doing maintanence. Anyhow, upon the cable update completion, my televiosion has no picture. I have sound, but when I turn the tv on, i have a black screen. I'm thinking that the lamp may need to be replaced? Any ideas? Thanks for your time

larry,

larry,
I fixed my blinking light problem with my WS-65513 in march 2007. Everything has been fine until Sat. I turned on the tv and had a picture and then it changed to a black screen with horizonal lines with a loud squealing noise. I unplugged it for a while and it still does it when I power up. Can you help fix the problem. I really like the tv .
Thanks,
Dan

Dan pres th menu and the

Dan pres th menu and the input buttons together and let m now what the light flashes, should be a two digit code.

Will do Larry. I will check

Will do Larry. I will check the code when I get home from work. I checked last night and the horizonal lines are purple, if that matters.
Thanks

Larry,

Larry,
I checked the error code and it is hard to tell if the code is 1-2 or 2-1. The first flash happens quick. I had it unplugged for a couple days and did get a picture and sound for about 5 minutes while I was getting the code.
Thanks,
Dan

Larry,

Larry,
The picture did get screwed up again but it went black with out the squealing this time. I didn't leave it on too long to see if the horizonal lines and squealing would start again. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I will be out of town for a while in a couple weeks and would like to get ot back working for the Mrs. before I leave.
Thanks again,
Dan

Larry,

Larry,
I haven't been able to check it yet. Are the convergence ICs under the heatsink closet to the rear of the tv? If they are under a heatsink how do I check them and how hot are they suppose to get? Should I go head and get the ICs? If so do you know a place that I could get them quickly?
Thanks,
Dan

I replaced the 9v regulator

I replaced the 9v regulator that is behind the terminal board and so far my WS-65613 is working fine. I'm hoping that this cures the problem with the black screen with purple horizonal lines. I also purchased the 2 convergence IC's just incase down the road. I am amazed at the amount of dust that collects inside these units. Thanks to Larry and Emmett for the info to repair my tv.

grea tnews, where did you buy

grea tnews, where did you buy the regulator , and how much ws it? I will add that info to my regulator fix for folks with your name as a credit if that is oK with you

NexusX
I bought the BA09FP regulator

I bought the BA09FP regulator and STK394-250 IC's from B&D Enterpeises in Russell, Pa. http://www.bdent.com
The regulator was high but the shipping was $6.35 UPS ground and I got it tne next day from Pa. I live in Maryland. Removing the terminal board was a little tricky because of the small connector by rhe DM that is 90 deg. to the terminal board. I just had to take my time lifting the board out from the 2 connectors after I unscrewed the 2 plastic braces.
Thanks Again,
Dan

I have a ws55613. the screen will go blue, and shut off. I changed tv box but no difference. a couple of times it said no signal, it slowly got worse, shut down and start up would last a while, now maybe 30 seconds, until it warms up. What do you think?

Thanks

I have a Mistubishi WS-65315

I have a Mistubishi WS-65315 (65-inch Projection TV). We got it from a friend, who didn't use it for several years and finally gave it to us. The screen has just recently starting "blinking" black at random intervals. It happens on all inputs, even when there is a "blue screen" showing (indicating no signal on that input). I have tried different video settings in the menu with no luck. The TV is a few years old, but I would like to repair it if possible. Any ideas why it is doing this?
