I have a 47" magnavox bought from Sears in 99. The picture has been getting darker and darker. The screen is now black with no sound. I have a TIVO hooked up to it and a dvd player, the TIVO box blinks when I hit the remote and I can play DVD's with no problem. The input on th remote still works because I can go from side video to ant etc. I wanted to know if it is worth having someone come and look at it or if I am better off replacing it with a newer model? Well, the set is almost nine years old, and a lot of parts will no longer be available. A service call will probably cost you at least 100 bucks or so, and if the problem is bad capacitors or a bad vertical output or drive circuit, your looking at least at a $300 to $400 repair bill. I have seen brand new Hitachi rear tube type projection sets for about 700 bucks. In my opinion, it is time to go shopping. Good Luck

brutus, need more info about the TV set man. Are you in the US? What is the model number of the TV set. Does a light blink on the front of the TV set? How old is this TV set. has it ever worked for you or did you just get the set like this?

A lot of parts are not available for this set any longer and it would probably cost a few hundred buck minimum to repair. On a 10 year old Nope wait almost eleven, you would be better off to get a new one.
