I have a Toshiba television Model no. 32AF43 and the remote control will not change the volume or channel. The controls on the front of the television will change the channel and volume any help would be appreciated. I have changed the batteries in the remote and this did not help! I can get the remote to work if I hold it close (one or two inches from the infrered window) to the receiver but only intermittenly.

If the remote will turn the set on and off, then the problem is in the hand remote unit. A new remote and be purchased at any authorized Toshiba distributor. You could even use a universal type remote, but that will only control the power and the volume and channels up and down. If the power does not work from this remote, then you have a bad remote sensor unit. this should only be replaced by a trained servicer. Good Luck and let us know how this turns out for you.
