For the past month my 42" Rear Projection TV has been giving me problems . The color has been fading and the center of the screen shows an off color that progresses outward towards the edges . When the screen is supposed to be blue the center is yellow progressing to green then to blue on the edge of the screen . I am wondering if this could be caused by a bad lamp . When watching programs the tint seems to be green . I have tried to adjust the color and tint nothing works . Could it be something such as a pigment tube . I am a LCD rear projection tv virgin , the tv is 2yrs old . My wife accidentally unplugged it while vacuuming and said when this happened she heard a pop like a light bulb blowing out . If anyone knows anything please help , if I can fix it myself I will . Thanks
You have a problem with the light engine in this TV set my friend. Hitachi knows about this problem and they will give the Authorized repair shop the new light engine for your TV set but you will have to pay for the labor charge. What you need to do is find an authorized Hitachi repair shop. Have them conferm that the light engine is bad, then call Hitachi, or the repair shop will call.for you, you can ask, then Hitachi will send the $1000.00 light engine for free!. good Luck and let us know how you make out with this repair.

Hey Larry! I just called Hitachi about the same problem, and they told me that they wouldn't pay for the repairs.. can you tell me how you got them to do this?
Hitachi 42V525 Light Engine problems.
It depends on who the retailer is and how you deal with them and Hitachi. There are some retailers that have enough pull with Hitachi to get you free parts or credits, etc.. Many of the light engines from Hitachi and other manufacturers have failed and consumers are told that the warranty is over and it is too bad.
Write letters to the store and the manufacturer (do research and find the name of senior management, directors, etc.). Express your disappointment in their poor performing product and poor response to your problem. Also mention that you will make sure that all of your family and friends will be informed of the situation and advised to never buy that manufacturer's product, or shop at the retailer that ignores your problem. It also helps to send letters to local TV station "Consumer Help" lines, etc. Also post negative reviews to any websites that will accept them. Someone from Hitachi will notice and you may get a surprise refund.
The basic problem is that the TV manufacturers are selling poorly designed products and not backing them up. In the old days a TV lasted 25 years, now you are looking at 3-7 years with "new technology" LCD and Plasma products. (Same for computers, as in recent Dell problems and admission of ignoring complaints and using known defective capacitors in the manufacture of hundreds of thousands of computers)
Cars are regularily re-called and manufacturing defects repaired, TVs usually go to the dump and the ignorant consumer goes back to the same stores and buys more junk products made by the same manufacturers.
There are some stores that will credit the full purchase price to the consumer and receive credit from manufacturers. Smaller or discount-box stores generally have no product knowledge or provide no support.
The important thing for most manufacturers and retailers is to get your money, service and support are expensive luxuries that are usually avoided.
