Hi,
About 6 months ago we bought a new 27" Philips TV, a basic set. When we complained about it having light and dark episodes, i.e. the screen going darker, then returning to normal. They replaced it with another, which did the same thing. Before complaining again, we had the cable company, Rogers, in to check out the cable. Of course, they found no problems, so we complained to Philips, who again replaced the TV. Now, this TV is doing the same thing. What I want to know is how can I be sure that the problem is with the set and not the cable, before I go back to Philips.
Thanks,
John
I'm not sure if your set is equipped with it but go into your customer menu and make sure there isn't an Auto picture feature. Some Philips have a feature where the set automatically adjusts brightness and contrast levels. If your set has this, turn it off. Check your instruction manual for more info.
The odds of you having 3 new sets doing the same thing are about the same as winning the Powerball lottery.
Hi MOtvGuy,
Yes, I have the 'Auto Picture' feature but it just presents four choices: movies, sports, weak signal, and multimedia. There doesn't seem to be any way of turning it off and on. It seems that you must choose one of the four options.
However, there are "Acitive Control Opions" in the Analog Mode settings, which seem to fit your description. "Active control options adjust the picture qulaity according to the signal strength coming in." Analog is the ONLY time I've seen the darkening phenomenum. Digital NEVER does this. This feature was "off", so I'll try it "on"
Also, the service man who delivered set said that this TV has a feature whereby it will adjust for changes in lighting conditons in the room; but I have not been able to find the settings for this.
Thanks,
John
