LG RH7500 problems - please help

Hi there,

I'm new and new to posting on forums so I apologise if I've done this incorrectly.
I have a RH7500 that is almost a year and a half old. I am having terrible problems with it. It turns itself off randomly while watching dvds or recording onto the harddrive and when viewing tv programs the picture sometimes freezes.
I didn't purchase an extended warranty so I'm not sure what to do. I also do not expect this from a good brand and on a unit not even two years old that has had limited use.
I've googled a little bit and found some people have had similar problems but I haven't found anyone thats had a solution.
Any help or suggestions on my next steps would greatly be appreciated.

Cheers

Ralf

Hi Ralf, I have similar problems: while recording or during timeshift the image freezes or jumps and keeps freezing/jumping during all the recording. If I turn the unit off and then back on, it works fine for a while, then problems restart.

If I play something from disc or hard drive image is fine: so the problem is in the A/D (analog to digital) unit.

I opened the unit, nothing seemed broken or burnt, only the "processor" at the center of the mainboard was very hot. I applied an alluminium dissipator taken from a PC CPU, and the unit worked fine for a long time. Now it started again givin problems, opened the cover, maybe the internal temperature went down and now is again fine.

I think the only problem is overheating. The fan is a 12 volts unit but receives only 3 or 5 volts. I found a 12 volts point on the mainboard and connected to the fan: it works much much better but it is also VERY noisy. I think I am going to drill the cover over the dissipator and seal the holes on the right of the unit, so that air will flow directly over the dissipator.

Try and tell me, I'm interested on your experience.

Best regards
