how can i connect my philips dvd 711 to an old jcpenny tv that only has a coax connection?

I have an old JCPenny television that only supports antenna and a coaxial connection. I would like to be able to play my Philips DVD711 through this television. The dvd player has a RCA-style coaxial port, so I thought I could run a coax cable between the tv and the dvd player using a coax/RCA adapter, but so far it is not working out that way. I don't know if the adapter that I bought is wrong, or if the coaxial port on the dvd player is only meant to support a digital audio feed to an amplifier. In any case, if it is at all possible, I would still like to be able to use the dvd player with this television (I don't really want to buy another tv). The dvd player has the standard RCA ports, as well as S-Video and Component Video. Any suggestions?

You need whats called an RF

You need whats called an RF modulator,  It is a device that connects up the audio and video from a DVD player or a video game and converts it to RF, so you can connect the DVD to the RF port of your TV set.  One example is here, but you can get them from just about any store that sells DVD players and/or video games such as Radio Shack, Wal_Mart,ABC warehouse.  Good Luck and let us know how you make out with hooking up your DVD player.
