Sky Multiroom and telephone connections

Thought I'd put my experiences down after working on a Sky Multiroom Install which then caused probs on internet connection. I was asked to fit a 2nd phone socket for a new Sky multiroom box (2nd box) in a bedroom. With the Sky multiroom contract you are supposed to have both boxes connected permanently to the same phoneline so that Sky can periodically check both boxes are at the same location and you've not lent one to a friend. On arrival I found neither Sky box had a phone connection and I basically fitted 2 extension sockets as per normal wiring convention and fitted an ADSL splitters on each of the new phone sockets and connected the SDky boxes to the "phone port".  I tested both new sockets for dialing tone etc and left. 2 days later cust called saying they were having problems with internet connection. After much PD I reran purchsed extension cables to each Sky Box using doublers etc. and again used the Splitters. Still had probs with internet  but this proved it wasn't my cabling. After tracing cables I found that part of the original install had put a Master socket in the living room (original ) and that at a later date a socket had been placewd in kitchen which was also a Master socket. Swapped out the kitchen Master to a Slave socket and thought this would fix it , but it didn't. In the end I swapped out the 2 new ADSL splitters I had fitted and replaced them with Speedtouch ones that I already had spare, this immediately cured the problem. Original splitters were from Screwfix at £4.99 each and were of the miniature variety, the ones that worked were Speedtouch. Moral of the story, Not all Splitters /Filters are equal,  it pays to check existing wiring and understand what is fitted, always bear in mind that there will be some installations that geographically are borderline and that when you add things across the line will give marginal operation.

Anyone know what the REN no of a Sky box is?  and has anyone had similar problems?
