Testing a VDR

Being an old retired electronic tech., I'm confused by the new technology and components. My world consisted of vacuum tubes, four banded resistors and paper capacitors. I am presently chasing a problem in a Sony 35KV42 TV. I get a continuous blinking standby light (no pause) I have looked up possible causes and am presently looking at the power supply as my problem. I need some help testing a VDR. I suspect VDR 601 as being in trouble, but don't know how to test it. I have always lifted off one side, checked the band colors and measured it. This VDR doesn't give you the value on the side, just "V10271U". I have tried looking that up with no success. Can someone tell me how I go about testing this guy ?

Thanks,

Bob

Most of the time if they

Most of the time if they measure open I would replace it. I have a note on the set your working on. There was an open VDR 601 and Q601 and Q602 was shorted, and R607 was open. I replaced these parts that came in a kit( I do not remember where I got the kit from). I fired this puppy up at 90 volts and pop the resistor cooked again and again i lost the horizontal output transistor. Upon further testing I found out the flyback was shorted also. the customer did not want to spend the bucks on this TV so it was scrapped. Hope this helps. Good Luck and let us know how you make out with this TV set.
