Hi, I have a Philips Magnavox 9P6040C101 PTV843 that has a major horizontal convergence problem as of late. Recently, the cold got it to do the screen shrinking-and-expanding thing, but for some reason, my mother thought it would be a good idea to unplug it for an entire week while I was off on a trip. Now that I'm back the shrinking problem is gone, but it seems that the red and blue convergence are way off horizontally, and it won't let me change them. Do I need to get a repair guy out here? I have no experience working on electronics, so the only things I could do on my end are fooling around with menu screens, which it doesn't look like that'll work this time...
Thanks.
Hi,
I have a Philips/Mag PTV843 (9P6040C101) in the shop with the above problem - convergence out and pulled in on all sides. Chem fuse (1007) is blown on convergence bd. I have changed the (2) STK 392-110's. The 1 amp chem fuse blows immediately and problem remains the same. Putting a heavier fuse in kills the high voltage. Any ideas? Just talked to another tech in another shop and he said he had the problem and gave up on solving it.
Thanks,
Virgil
It's not the convergence IC that causes this problem. This is very common problem with this model. The screen will shrink and expand or it will just loose audio/video but the power light will remain on.
