hello,
i have a philips 27pt6441/37 which is about 1 1/2 yrs old. my problem occured last week when i went to turn the tv on with the remote and i heard the power kick in and saw the light on the tv for a brief second and nothing happened. now i have no power to the tv. is there a fuse that needs to be replaced? is this something a handy person can do?
thank you
From what you describe, you set may have blown a main AC fuse, but fuses very rarely blows by themselfs. If you start to replace fuses and they continue to blow, you can cause more damage to the TV set. The best thing to do, I think, in the case of a blown main fuse, would be to clip a 100 watt light bulb across the fuse, plug in the set. If the light bulb glows bright and does not dim, you could have a short in the standby or main power supply. It could be the B+ rectifiers, main filter capacitors, SMPS componets, flyback trasformer, horizontal output trasistor, or a problem in the sweep power supply. If the light lights up and goes dim, see if the set will power up. If the set seems to come on and you have a picture with no smoke replace the fuse and see if the set works. Now sometimes when you switch on a TV set with a light across the fuse, and the set has a semi short or a winding short on the flyback transformer, they can smoke. Just be carefull, as there is alot of high voltage inside this set even when its unplugged. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
That particular model has a modification that needs to be performed by replacing the degauss thermistor. The one that's in the set stays on too long and will eventually blow the fuse. I don't have that part number handy but any Philips dealer will know what the new, improved thermistor part number is. Install that and a new fuse and you should be ready to go.
