Help with old 27" Sony Trinitron

I have an old 27" Sony Trinitron that has been working fine 15 years until now. When I turn it on it makes a buzzing noise while it switches between sleeper and timer. No picture comes up. Any help would be appreciated.

The model # is KV-24TW70 or KV-24TH70. Can't quite make it out. It is either a "W70" or an "H70". I am not sure what you mean by chassis #.

It seems that when I turn on the TV it sounds like the relay is clicking and it is switching between sleeper and timer on the front of the set.

tenman what makes you think

tenman what makes you think the set is switching between sleep and timer? What are the EXACT symptoms? Is the relay clicking on and off at a steady rate? There is no mechanical means for a set such as this to switch between those two functions you desribe. Is this just what your calling it??? Im a bit confused as I have never heard anything called this? Please let me know as I would like to see what you are saying.

The red power light is switching on the front of the tv between sleeper and timer. It sounds like a relay clicking (kind of a buzzing sound). TV never powers up.

ok thats exactly what i

ok thats exactly what i thought was happening.  The set really is not switching between the two modes, it the tv set, is really simply not switching on.  The relay or lets say the standby power supply has a bad regulator or bad capacitor in the supply, and when the relay goes to switch on, the b+ is there, but there is not enough to let it stay on, and therefore shuts off, and then back on again.  Now there might be a condition with this set, where there is a b+short somewhere in the power supply or the sweep supply of the tV set.  This could also cause this condition.  These are not problems repairable by the layman, or the handi-man.  this should only be done by a trained tech, unless you have had solid state repair troubleshooting  experience in the past.  Good Luck, and if you can, Please keep us all informned of the repair of this TV.

Assuming that this is the

Assuming that this is the problem can you give me an estimate as to what it might cost? If it is anything over $100 I will probably get a new TV. Thanks.

Larry Dillon
The estimate alone will

The estimate alone will probably cost you between 25 to 50 bucks.  To say it won't cost over 100 bucks would be a quess.  The set would have to be checked out by a tech first.  Now in my opinion it is not worth even an estimate fee on a 15 year old set.  You got alot of good years out of this puppy, and now I think its time to put her to rest.  Yes, buy a new tV set.  Good Luck
