I recently bought a cheap $80 20" Insignia from Best Buy (it's their "in house" exclusive brand) to replace my dead Sony Trinitron. What I noticed is when I watch widescreen movies the black bars curve upwards at the top and downwards at the bottom. I don't know if this is because the screen is physically curved more than my Trinitron or because there is a problem with it. Does anyone else have this problem with their tube TV's? I can also notice it when I bring up my onscreen TV Guide. I can return it and get another one but I don't want to have the same problem. I know it's not the greatest brand but I just needed something for my bedroom. Anyone know?
For that type of money, Im wondering if a new set will be any differant? I would for sure take it back and look at one on display, and if that looks good, ask for that one. If they all look the same, go ahead and lay out a few more bucks for one you like. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
The one on display in the store had a DVD player hooked up to it that was split about 20 times so it was kind of hard to tell how the quality would look. I remembered I have a gift card for $50 from the store I bought it from so I might go for a better brand. Hopefully I'll let you know tomorrow.
