I own a Sony TV, Model #KV-27FV300, that occasionally exhibits an audio problem. The audio will become distorted to make it appear as if the sound is coming from a cave or out of a can - a hollow, tinny type of sound. The audio will remain in this mode for a minute or two then return to normal. Other times the audio may become gargled, then resume to normal when the channel is switched.
Has anyone experienced this and what did you do to correct the situation.
If you have any technical background, here is a little test to see if the famous sony audio moduke is defective.. This is also a cross referamce list for other generic numbers for differant sets. Generic Sony # SBX1637-11, SBX1637A-01/02, SBX1638A-01A
Sony # 8-741-637-11, 8-746-371-10/20
Hitachi # 1381181
RCA # SKUP9102, 201632, 225563, 231130
Zenith # 905-2321
Goldstar # OIS0163702A
Toshiba # 2314876 (IF/MTS module assembly), 70012328
JVC # SBX1637A-02
Generic # HTS7332AX, HTS7332B
If you want to bypass the "module for a test": Remove from set and replace with 2 caps (4.7 UF,50 V) put + of each capacitor on pin 12, and the negative leads on pin 10 and pin 11. This will feed audio into both left & right channels, however you will not have SAP available. Good luck and please let us know how you made out.
Thanks, Larry. Will try what you recommended. I suspected it could be the audio module, but needed to here from others that may be the culprit.

Heres the Audio IC thats for this set by the way. Here
Thanks again. Do you know where I can order a Tech manual for that set to help me navigate my way to where the audio module is located...how to remove casing, etc. I do not have that much technical background, but am not afraid to tackle the project providing I can refer to a roadmap.

If you have no training at all on how to solder or work on printed circuit boiards, you may be doing more harm then good. if you want to experiemnt Please Im warning you its not a good Idea. If you really think you can do this Good luck to you and i WILL assist you if you want but can take no responsability whatso ever. The manual is available here for download. lets me know if you need further assistance.
Larry, thank you once more. You see, I thought that maybe the module was one that simply plugs in, but obviously not so...I am heeding your warning and will seek a professional who can help me. I can at least order the part and have it availble. The only thing that is preventing me from acting quickly is that I am also considering purchasing a TV that has Hi-def features, something that this TV does not have. If I don't ack sooner than later, I just may keep this set until the audio goes out completely and then will be forced to make a purchase decision.
From your perspective, do you have a personal recommendation for a new set that has Hi-def capabilities. I am interested in a set within the 32"+ range.

Hello, Larry
Maybe you can help me here.
I have a Hitachi 53SWX12B that has no audio from internal speakers or audio outputs. When I turned the set on I heard a static noise that slowly got louder for about 30 secs then nothing at all. I can still hear a very low static noise comming from the speakers when set is on(only when I place my ear against the speaker. Any help would be great. Thanks, Jesse
www.mcminone.com has them part # 32-9495 for about $15
