Hi, Marilyn: You would be surprised at how many DVD problems start with "L"...for Laser. I'm not saying this is the situation in your case, but it is the first place I would look. If you have the unit in a "smoking" household, the diagnosis is even more likely. If you (or someone you trust) can get to the laser lens (this is what "reads" your CD or DVD) and carefully clean it, it's a good bet you'll be up and running again. You stay in "Standay" probably because the lens is dirty and simply doesn't detect the inserted disc.
