TV won't turn off

I have a Hitachi projector TV that is about 10 years old.

A few months ago, it wouldn't turn off after I pressed the power button, so I had to unplug it.
Then, after a few days it started working again. Now it is doing the same thing again.

When I press the power button to turn it off, it immediately comes back on, but there is no sound.
I press the power button again, it immediately comes back on, but with sound.

It keeps alternating like this, but refuses to turn off. What can be the problem?

Your problem is the results

Your problem is the results of the main power relay sticking , so when you turn off the TV set, the microprocessor is shutting off the tuner and the other funtions, but the relay is keeping the power supply and sweep activated.  If you know how to solder and unsolder you can take out the relay and replace it or take off the cover and clean the contacts off with an very fine grit of emory cloth or whats called a burnishing tool.  Let us know how you made out with this. If you want to learn a few things about soldering, go to  http://www.epemag.wimborne.co.uk/solderpix.htm Good Luck
