SONY VAIO LOOSES CONNECTION

I have recently purchased a new Sony VAIO VGN-FJ180P and was configuring the notebook to my NETGEAR WGR-614 wireless network. After I connected to the network (using an Access Point) I setup my AIM and Yahoo IM. I logged into my AIM and began send text msgs. While waiting for replys I logged on the internet and was surfing the net. After about a minute or so I was kicked off AIM and the network. I had to reset my connection in order to get back on the internet and AIM. Any suggestions.
