Somebody gave me this model 2nd hand but without instructions - ideally I'd like to get the manual for it but Mitsubish said they don't have it. If anyone knows how I can get one, that would be a big help. Otherwise I at least need to know how to hook it up to a TV without a cable box. I wasn't given any cables/cords so I don't know what I need. I'd appreciate any info/advice anyone might have.
The DD-4001... that takes me back. Did you know that this was the very first model DVD player Mitsubishi made themselves?
You do not need a cable box to connect this to your TV. The player has three kinds of video outputs: composite(yellow jack), S-Video(round with pins), and component(red, green, and blue jacks). Select the best your TV offers, and connect the appropriate cables from the back of the DVD player to the back of the TV. Then, if you use the TV for sound, connect the red and white audio jacks to the same input that you plugged the video into. Switch your TV to that input, turn on the DVD player, and viola!
If your TV only has a screw-type coax input, you'll need to go to your local electronics store and purchase an "RF modulator". This device will serve as an intermediary between the DVD player and the TV.
Good luck, post back if you need more help, and let us know if you get it working.
Thanks for the info - another question for you: I have the yellow, red, and white connected between the TV and DVD player but I don't know what you mean when you say, "Switch your TV to that input" - could you clarify that for me? Thanks again,
Nicholas
Your television likely has an internal tuner for basic cable and an antenna, as well as the external jacks (known as inputs) on the back of the TV. The phrase, "Switch the input" means selecting the jack your player or other device is plugged in to.
Inputs can also be related to TV broadcasts. A regular cable signal has 70 or more channels all coming into the TV. Selecting a channel is similar to selecting an input, but instead of selecting a channel, you're selecting a jack on the back of the TV.
TV's can have 4 or more sets of these external jacks on the back of the TV to hook up various external devices. Switching inputs means cycling through the different jacks to view the source you wish to view.
I'm not sure what kind of TV you have, so I can't give you specific instructions on how to select the external inputs for your set. Most of the time, you can select different sources on a TV by:
-Pressing a button on the remote control labeled INPUT, TV/VIDEO, EXT, or similar.
-Cycle inputs between the lowest and highest channels on the dial.
-Pressing an INPUT or EXT button on the front of the TV.
-Changing a source setting in the TV's main menu
Let me know if you have other questions.
