had to re-post quest. have a 50in. hitachi projection, getting sound but no picture, after looking over some of the other forum questions, i played a dvd, and got a picture, for a little bit, then pushed a button and now nothing! any thoughts?!?!

I have a 27" hitachi some one was giving it away. they said that it doesn't turn on but can be fixed. I'm pretty good at fix it myself but don't know where to start or how to trouble shoot it because I don't know how it happened. If you get a response let me know.
